Peacefully in his home on April 18th, Francesco Amato at the age of 81 passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Francesco was born in Tripoli, Libya, son of the late Paulo and Vincenza Amato. Beloved wife of 56 years to Giuseppina (Ferrara). Loving father of Virginia (Sheldon) Harrington, Paul (Katie) Amato and Cathy (Doug) Cooper. Cherished Nonno to Nicole, Emma, Kristen and Jacob.
Sadly missed by his sisters, Vincenza (Jack) Provenza , Maria (Giuseppe) Cammisa, and Rosa Salamone; and brothers, Benito Amato, Antonio (Antonina) Amato, Pietro (Francesca) Amato and Angelo Amato, his sister- in-laws Liboria Amato and Rosa Amato, and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Benedetto Amato and Salvatore Amato, sister-in-law Gina Amato and brother-in-law Ross Salamone.
In 1966, Francesco moved from Alcamo, Sicily to Canada determined to provide a great life for his family. He worked hard for many years as a bricklayer, owning and managing rental properties and working for Libby’s in both Chatham and Wallaceburg, Ontario. In his retirement years, Francesco found much happiness spending time with his grandchildren and returning back to his roots in Alcamo, Sicily for annual vacations.

Friends and relatives will be received at DeMarco Funeral Visitation Centre, 8003 Weston Road, Woodbridge on April 20th from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass on April 21st at 11:00 AM - Immaculate Conception Church, 300 Ansley Grove Road, Woodbridge. Entombment to follow - Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 7300 Hwy 27, Woodbridge.
