It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a great husband and father, Matteo Galati. He was called by God on May 3, 2018 at the age of 89 surrounded by his family. Born in San Nicola da Crissa, Italy, on February 2, 1929 to Giuseppe Galati and Maria Teresa Malfara. He was the seventh of eight siblings, six boys and two girls. He came to Canada in 1954. During a trip to Italy in 1958, Matteo met and later married his wife, Chiara Galloro, on July 13. Chiara joined Matteo in Canada in 1959 and they started their new life together, sharing 59 beautiful years together. They had two daughters, Terry (1960) and Felicia (1966). Although Matteo had no formal education, he worked hard to support his family. Never sitting still and always thinking of their needs. He had such a great appreciation of people and life.
But today a heart of gold has stopped beating and two shining eyes are now at rest. No longer by our side, but forever in our hearts, while his beautiful smile continues to shine bright as the sun. He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Chiara and his daughters Terry and Felicia and her husband Roger Grandgenett. His life was a blessing and our memories are a treasure.
He will be remembered for his love of food, gardening, hunting, storytelling and witty remarks. A compassionate, humble man who was always eager to set aside his needs to help those around him. A man of few words in which he spoke volumes. A small framed man whose kindness was larger than life. The passion he had for his family and life and how he gave his all in all he did will not be forgotten. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives and friends.
“Think of me as living in the hearts of those I touched. For nothing loved is ever lost and I have loved so much."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Matteo's name to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
