Hello. A while back, I heard mom speaking out loud and looking at her prayer book, I didn’t understand what she was talking about. I looked at the prayer book and found 2 blank pages. I stopped her and asked “are you ok”? What are you saying? She replied I’m reading and praying in Latin. ( she hoped to have this mass in latin today) For you that knew my mom she had a poem or a saying for every occasion, and would call you on your saint’s name day to wish you the best. Just last week she asked to find a poem that grandma Giulia had of a serenade,of her wedding from 1911. I started to read it and she completed it from memory. Mom at the age of 95, the eldest of the longo family tree had her shares of up and downs growing up in small town Trenta Cosenza. Pep Marisa and I Listening to her repeated stories of her life, it was amazing how vivid and detail she could remember events. Like making bread with grandma, food preservation for winter months. To witness first electricity in the town and to hear Radio. Many stories of the neighbourhood, of the pharmacist, and war stories , and of her church. One story that she would repeat was losing her Dad at the age of 13 in the Silla area, they had to bring him back to town. To avoid paying town border taxes they hid in in hay and raced with horses crossing towns overnight. All these stories, didn’t make sense till I went to Italy for a longo family reunion, of which she explained the area where she grew up. Like The spot where she fell and scraped her knee (of which the scar is still there on her leg). The spot where she was sitting when the first bombs hit in the war. The olive garden. the olive press. And the neighbourhood horse barn and where grandma baked bread. Coming to Canada, had its challenges, speaking only Italian all her life and marring late in life, yet a strong woman, to take care of Dad, Pep and I, and 2 grandmothers, while cooking and cleaning. And to top it off, started babysitting little Teresa and Joseph in her 60s. Later, with dad passing I knew mom liked to travel as a previous trip to see Mickey Mouse Florida and a trip to Vancouver opened her eyes to travel. I embarked on a Journey with my mom from her age of 77 to 88 going to a warm vacation every year like the chin radio winter picnic and other mini trips. These brought many happy days and memories OF which just recently she could recall many events of these trips including making a few new friends. She loved the ocean sea salt. So much that I had to take her in the ocean twice a day up to her neck….. it was A site to see an 87 year old bobbing up and down in Cuba…Of course she wanted her cane , just in case she fell down…… I also remember when she gathered 10 people on the beach to sit around and say the rosary. I must say these trips added years to her life. ------- Mom’s message to you is to visit and bring flowers to people when they are alive and to say your prayers to find inner peace. (She asked me to go to InterrrAnet and put on FACE- BOOK) We will miss Listening to Prayer channel RADIO Maria at full blast ! Will miss all the little stories. Will miss homemade remedies, like for knee injury make a pack ok parsley butter and garlic and try around knee…..what only me?? Will miss her asking for Red wine and not watered down Will miss birthday cakes with icing sugar ititlails AB ( Appy birthday) Will miss the stopping of her cane every 2 hours to indicate she needed assistance And for anyone who has a recipe from mom, 4 handfuls of flower is 1 Kg (USING 2 hands) Last night many were commenting how young she looked, well the secret is LOTS of olive oil on EVERYTHING, lots of watermelon, and Nivea Day Q10 cream. NOT the night one as she said noone looks at you at night. As of late, after surviving colon cancer at the age of 92 and recently a stroke, I reflected on her journey I Would like to thank ROSA Albia and Marisa for taking care of mom. Thanks tullio lobianco

Our deepest condolences to Tullio, Joe and Marisa. We will always remember your Mom as gentle, loving and caring. She always had a wonderful smile and warm embrace every time we met. We are blessed to have known her as she was there for all the Longo family functions, reunions and our BBQs. May the great memories ease your grief and deep loss. Sending prayers and thinking of you.
