I met Patience through a program in which university students act as mentors to staff members (i.e. the mentees). This unexpected switch of the mentoring dynamic provides an opportunity for staff to consider experiences they never would have otherwise. When I was matched with Patience, I expected to get insights from the perspective of a working parent, an educator with international learning experiences, and a multilingual learner hoping to become an English teacher. What I didn't consider is Patience's delightful laughter, her anecdotes from her family life, and her encouragement of my own professional/academic pursuits. (She always asked me about my workload, my part-time PhD, and made sure I was taking care of myself.) It's a tremendous loss and I still cannot fathom the impact on her loved ones, her community, and friends. Patience, I will remember your smile and warmth from our short interactions. Thank you for your kindness.

Patience,

I knew you for such a short period of time, a day, yet you made a big impression on me. I promise you that I will keep an eye on Itohan while at De La Salle College. Your example and desire for her to strengthen her academics will serve her well. Thank you for all you did for her and your family. God bless you and your family. Berta Carreco

On behalf of the students, staff and instructors of the University of Toronto TESOL certificate program, our deepest condolences to the Odigie family. Patience was actively engaged in the TESOL learning community and well-known amongst everyone in the program. We were all very saddened to hear about her death. She will be missed.

On behalf of the teaching staff and students at New College International Programs at the University of Toronto, our deepest condolences on this sudden, terrible loss. Patience was a gifted teacher and we feel fortunate and grateful for the wisdom and experience that she shared with our students this summer. We miss her and the program will not be the same without her.

To know Patience was to love her. Her positive energy and passion for people and her enthusiasm for making the world a better place were remarkable and inspiring. I feel blessed to have taken classes with Patience in the University of Toronto TESOL program, where she always generously shared her experience, knowledge, and wisdom. Patience was genuinely kind and authentically interested in others. She was always actively engaged inside and outside of the classroom. And of course the centre of her universe was her beautiful family. Deepest condolences to all the family, here and abroad, especially her beloved husband and their five children. Patience lives on in you and her good deeds. May your memories and faith bring you comfort and peace. To know Patience was to love her. Her passion for
